March 15, 2019: Introduction, CV, and Oral Presentations

• Introduction to course
• Speaking exercise: students introduce themselves
• Topic: Writing CVs
• Topic: Planning and holding oral presentations
• Assignments:
  • Write CV (see example in TISS), send it to Amy and sab in pdf, due: next lesson
  • Prepare short presentation of self with 2-3 slides

March 22, 2019: Information Retrieval & Presentations of Self

• CV due
• Short presentation of self plus feedback
• Topic: Information retrieval
• Topic: Abstract writing
• Assignment:
  • Write reference description (see example in TISS) of chosen topic, send it to Editor in pdf, due: next lesson
    1. Selection and Reading of 2 Papers (min) on selected topic
    2. Formulation of own statements based on papers read for Topic (3 Statements min. per selected paper)
    3. Submission of general topic (main statement) to editor

March 29, 2019: Technical Writing and Types of Scientific Communication

• Reference description due
• CVs returned and discussed
• Topic: Technical writing, Types of Scientific Communication
• Assignment:
  • Write an informative abstract (see example in TISS) comparing the papers selected and send it to the Editor, due: April 19th
  • Editor collects all abstracts and sends it to Amy and sab in pdf until April 20. Editor is responsible for timely submission. No late submissions accepted!
  • Write extended abstract of chosen topic until May 3 (3 pages, see example in TISS, use of LaTeX or Word Template mandatory!) and prepare short presentation including slides (5 min)  of abstract!
  • Editor collects all Extended abstracts and sends them to Amy and sab in pdf until May 4. Editor is responsible for timely submission. No late submissions accepted!
  • LaTeX user please download stylefile (ausarbeitung.sty) and Template (semtemplate.tex) for the document! Word user can modify an existing Word template.

    • Write complete paper for seminar (6 pages, see example in TISS, use of LaTeX or Word Template mandatory!) and prepare a long presentation (10 min), due June 7th! Please send your paper 7 days before the Deadline in pdf to your lector, correct the paper and send it then to the Editor, who is responsible for timely submission. No late submissions accepted!
